FAIRFORD Primary School has been awarded a special accolade for its commitment to sport.

The Cotswold-based school has received Sainsbury’s School Games Silver Award. The School Games rewards schools for their commitment and dedication to a competition, school sports and physical education.

Fairford Primary was celebrated in the Games for its pupils' commitment to after-school and lunchtime sports, including football, athletics, mini red tennis and more. More than 90 per cent of children in Key Stage 2 took part in at least one of the offered activities.

"We are very pleased to receive this award because it gives recognition to the commitment and priority that Fairford Primary School places on PE & Sport," said PE teacher Rosemary Peck. "We are now working towards Gold."

The school was also rewarded for all Key Stage 2 children taking part in at least one sports competition last year, some against other schools.

Students were also rewarded for their leadership in sport and developing links with local clubs, including Fairford Rugby Club, Fairford Netball Club and Fairford Cricket Club.
