GENERATIONS of former supporters, leaders and attendees of the Oaksey Youth Club came together to celebrate the organisation's 21st birthday John Assheton decided to form the Oaksey Charitable trust using money he would have spent on his children or grandchildren, had he had them.

Mr Assheton provided the village with its first youth hut, which he built in his own back garden.

He also provided donations to Oaksey school, the village hall, the sports pavilion and the field.

Some of the 18 children who attended the celebration earlier this month shared what they liked best about the youth club on a memories board.

The posts included:

  • I remember doing water sports and being capsized several times, it was hilarious but scary
  • I remember making our own ice cream on the playing field
  • My favourite activities are parachute games and playing in the park
  • I like all the different things we get to do, like art and extreme dodgeball
  • I remember making swords and shields

The junior youth group, which provides activities and entertainment for six to11 year-olds, meets at the school on Thursdays from 5:30pm to 7:00pm.
