A NEW business in Cricklade is providing residents in the town the chance to try out a delicious range of specialist coffee.

The barista coffee shop is owned by Ellen Smith and sells a range of teas, homemade cakes and coffee which is supplied by specialist Cirencester coffee suppliers Rave Coffee.

Ellen said she decided to open the coffee shop as she thought Cricklade was crying out for somewhere they could go to get a lovely cup of high-quality coffee.

“I have been thinking about doing this for a long time. There is not a lot here (Cricklade) really, there is a small population and over the last couple of years it has suffered from the recession and a lot of businesses have come and gone very quickly.

“There is now quite a lot of retired people and young mothers about so I thought I would risk it and open a coffee shop.

“It is really busy most of the time. It seems like young people are happy to have somewhere to go.

“It is a nice respectable place to go with friends which is light and airy.”

Rave Coffee, which is based on Love Lane Industrial Estate, provides Ellen with speciality coffee beans which have usually been grown in ideal microclimate conditions, often at altitude, giving the coffee a distinctive taste.

Ellen also sells her own brand of chilli jam which she describes as ‘fiery and sweet, much like sweet chilli sauce’.

As well as food and drink, there is also a host of Indian crafts and work by Cricklade artist Damien Davis sold at the coffee shop.
