A KEEN jogger who has been running more than five kilometres every day since the start of this year, has less than 100 days to go before he finishes his epic mission.

Matt Cordas, who works at St James' Place in Cirencester, has run at least five kilometres every day since New Year's Day and will keep on doing so until New Year's Eve in just under three month's time.

The finish line is on the horizon for super-speedy Matt, as he announced earlier this week that he has less than 100 days to go on his marathon challenge. When he finishes on New Year's Eve he will have run more than 2,000km, the equivalent of running from Cirencester to Rome.

“Three pairs of shoes down, I now have ran over 1,576km this calendar year, surpassing the distance from Cirencester to Glasgow, Paris, Amsterdam, Luxembourg, Strasbourg, Zurich, Basel, Munich, Milan and Venice," said Matt.

The Swindon lad has also raised more than £4,000 for the St James' Place charity, which supports hundreds of projects that benefit children and young people.

At the start of the year he had a fundraising target of £2,014 but boosted his target when he realised he had smashed his total before he was even six months into his challenge.

"The sponsorship has been phenomenal," he added. "I am now 82 per cent through my £5,000 target, with £4,120 already raised. Thank you everyone for your superb support this year. The kind works push me further each and every day."

Although Matt said his legs were feeling the effects of the challenge, nothing was going to stop him now he is so close to the end.

He has taken part in all different races, including The Malmesbury 10km which he ran dressed up as a banana, and the Cheltenham Half Marathon.

Even a recent cold has not slowed him down and October will see him competing in the Swindon Half Marathon and the Great South Run.

And far from dreaming of his first day in 2015 where he does not have to lace up his trainers and head out into the cold, Matt is already planning big events for next year.

"I've got bigger organised events on the horizon," he said. "Hopefully a marathon, be it London or Berlin, and I also want to run up Snowdon too.”
