A COMPLAINT made against a Fairford town councillor has been rejected by Cotswold District Council.

Fairford resident Robert Jeanes lodged a complaint against Councillor Chris Roberts at the town council meeting in August.

He claimed that Cllr Roberts was running a “deceitful” and “odious” Facebook page, which he said town residents were being misled by.

Cllr Roberts helps to run a page titled What’s new in Fairford and Surrounding Areas, which gives updates on news and events in the town.

Mr Jeanes said at the meeting he expected the town council to “disassociate itself immediately, very clearly, and publicly from this embarrassing site.”

The Code of Conduct complaint made by Mr Jeanes was rejected by a member of legal and property services at CDC earlier this month.

The finding was that the material Cllr Roberts puts on the Facebook page What’s New in Fairford and Surrounding Areas was placed by her as a private individual and not a councillor and therefore the code does not apply. The council was, therefore, unable to investigate the complaint.
