A NEW website aiming to help children protect themselves from cyberbullying and online grooming has gone live.

Youth Zone is an extension of the Wiltshire Police website and is being run as a one-stop shop for young children and teenagers to get information on issues ranging from road safety to dealing with domestic violence and sexual abuse.

PC Sally Pullen, who instigated the project said it was a useful site that not only provided advice but was also a source of information for schools and could be integrated into lessons.

Sgt Steve McGlynn, added: “Almost a third of the population of Wiltshire is made up of people under 24 years of age so it’s vital that we engage and educate this important section of our community.”

The new site is split into three age ranges - under 11s, 11-16 and over 16s - with each area including a focus on online safety.

The Youth Zone can also be used by parents and police for information.

A competition is being run to mark the birth of the site with a tablet computer as the prize. Visit wiltshire.police.uk for details.
