LIBERAL Democrats on Gloucestershire County Council are to call for cycling to be given higher priority in the region.

At the next council meeting on the September 10, the Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Highways and Flood Cllr Paul Hodgkinson will propose a motion to improve cycle routes and cycle parking.

Cllr Hodgkinson said: “Cycling brings a lot of positive benefits – it is not only good for your health, but is also good for the environment. It is a great way to reduce transport costs and can go some way to easing our traffic congested roads.

“I am keen for the council to promote cycling further across the county and to encourage short, urban cycle routes and ways for rural cyclists to cycle safely in beautiful areas like the Forest, and in my own area - the Cotswolds.”

The council’s Lib Dems say they are aiming for a more joined up approach to cycling, focusing on how cyclists get from one place to another instead of creating new cycle paths which are not connected.

Pentheus says...

Breaking News.
" Libdems to comment on everything to avoid becoming a politically extinct party"

Said a spokesman. "We will say and try and grab any headline to distract public opinion away from the numerous sex scandals about Libdem MP's , Councillors and Chief Execs and they fact we tell bigger lies than the Conservatives !"

No change there then.

Pentheus -
You have nothing to say about the subject matter - the benefits to society
of cycling. But the article did serve some purpose - it gave people like you the opportunity to confirm how the conversational void in political debate is filled by the insults and nonsense that people like you come out with. As though these scandals were limited only to the party you hate.
I'm fairly non-political and I can therefore say without the bias of people like Pentheus that the coalition have helped this country through a difficult period - made a few mistakes - but not too badly. Whether the electorate see it that way when they are stoked up by this sort of bile remains to be seen. What will we get instead to run the country ?
