THE redoubling of the Stroud-Swindon railway line has finally finished, after funding was first secured three years ago.

Cotswold MP Geoffrey Clifton-Brown has been campaigning to turn the single track into two for many years. He said he is incredibly pleased to see it finally complete.

“ I was pleased to have successfully convinced the Chancellor of the Exchequer to invest £40 million in this line and since then I have been pressing hard to ensure that when the line is completed First Great Western operate an enhanced number of trains to increase the regularity of trains,” he said.

The new track means that trains can run simultaneously, where before the single track prohibited this, improving the service between Stroud and Swindon for commuters and residents.

“The redoubling of the Swindon-Kemble line, and of the Moreton to Evesham line, are of major importance to my constituency of The Cotswolds and I am delighted that the two Cotswold stations now have redoubled lines,” added Mr Clifton-Brown. “This will benefit both businesses and visitors to and from the Cotswolds enormously.”

The creation of the second track on 12 miles of the line will improve overall capacity between Swindon and Standish Junction, providing a better service locally.
