LIBERAL Democrat and Green councillors are asking all of Gloucestershire County Council’s members to back their call for disclosure of all costs related to cancelling the contract for a controversial incinerator in the county.
The proposed incinerator at Javelin Park was rejected last year but by that time the county council had already signed the contract to build the £500million site.
This request for information is to be made ahead of the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Eric Pickles making the final decision over the fate of Gloucestershire’s ‘Energy for Waste’ facility.
Leader of the county’s Liberal Democrats, Cllr Jeremy Hilton said: “The Conservative administration must provide full and frank disclosure of the financial costs of cancelling the contract whether or not the Secretary of State rejects the appeal by Urbaser Balfour Beatty (UBB).
“We cannot allow the minority Conservative administration to keep us in the dark over such a major project that could leave the council with a financial liability of many millions of pounds”.
