THE search is on for game girls - and boys - to compete for the title of Mangold Maid at next month’s annual Sherston Mangold Hurl.
The event on October 5, which has attracted national headlines in the past, is heralded by the winner who is brought into the arena on a cart load of the root vegetables.
Over 16s are sought for the saucy role, which starts on the Friday before with a ceremonial anointment of the target mangolds, known as Normans, at the Rattlebone Inn where landlord Jason Read is Keeper of the Maids.
