LIFE-SAVING skills are being taught at next week’s Emergency Services Show.

St John Ambulance volunteers are giving free first aid demonstrations during the event that attracts thousands to the airfield at Hullavington.

Five easy to follow techniques that could make the different between life and death feature in the demonstrations as part of the charity’s Save a Life September campaign.

“In the time it takes to do your weekly shop, you could learn how to stop a friend choking or keep a loved one alive until an ambulance arrives,” said regional training manager Jim Jones.

“Anyone who needs first aid should get it, and the more of us that can help in an emergency, the better. No one should die for a lack of first aid.”

The show on September 7, which is organised by a committee including firefighters, police and paramedics, raises thousands of pounds for emergency service charities and draws visitors from all over the region.

Among the attractions are police car and fire engine rides, crash recovery demonstrations, helicopter rides, a police dog competition and the Wiltshire police and air ambulance.

Cricklade firefighter Pete Price and fellow brigade member Dean Hoskins will be parachuting in as part of the Jump4Heroes team and the volunteer-run Civil Air Patriot light aircraft, which helps with observation during incidents, will also be at the event.

The gates open from 10 am and advance tickets can be bought online at emergencyservicesshow.com
