ONE of the district councillors for Kempsford-Lechlade has given up her independent status and joined the council’s Conservative group.
Cllr Sue Coakley was first elected in 2011 as an independent candidate, beating the third place candidate by a mere 55 votes.
Sue said: “Since being elected in 2011, I have generally found myself supporting most of the Conservative initiatives at Cotswold District Council.
“I agree with the way they have kept council tax levels down whilst also protecting valuable frontline services. At the same time they are doing whatever they can to help the towns and villages in the district.
“Being closer to the decision-making process will, I hope, benefit the residents of the ward I represent.”
Council leader Lynden Stowe welcomed Cllr Coakley to the group saying: “It’s been clear to us that Sue is doing a first class job representing Lechlade, Kempsford and the surrounding areas.
“Her community-spirit and attention to detail are key qualities which I hope we can use for the benefit of the wider district”.
