SUCCESS was in the air this morning at Cotswold School, as happy students celebrated great GCSE results.

This year, 80 per cent of pupils at the school in Bourton-on-the-Water received five or more GCSE grades at A* to C with 70 per cent receiving five or more A* to C including English and maths.

Headteacher Will Morgan said he was enormously proud of all the 16-year-olds at the school.

“They have achieved wonderful GCSE results in a year which has seen sweeping changes to exams and assessment,” he said. “There are fantastic stories of individual achievement and we are celebrating them all.”

Student Victoria Eggerton cried tears of joy as she received her results this morning. She received five A’s, one A* and one B and said she was ecstatic.

“I’m so surprised. I didn’t think I would do so well,” she said.

Her dad Stephen said it had been a difficult year for the family as Victoria had spent a lot of time in hospital.

“I am absolutely astounded and amazed for her,” he said. “She has had so much support and back-up from the school so it is really an achievement on both sides.”

Another pupil Henry Yates was overwhelmed to discover he was the highest achieving boy in his year. He received 10 A*’s, three A’s and one B.

“I’m very pleased with that,” he said. “I’m coming back to the sixth form next year to study physics, chemistry, biology and economics.”

Pupils rejoiced throughout the morning with family, friends and teachers, with many making plans to celebrate later today.

Jossy Munro, the highest achieving girl in the year with 10 A*’s and one A, said she was hopefully planning a celebration for this evening.

She said: “I’m quite surprised as I find I always come out of exams not knowing how they went so I’m really relieved.”
