FAIRFORD Steam Show celebrated a successful weekend, with a new and popular ploughing activity named the highlight of the event.

The annual family-fun steam rally boasts vintage tractors, steam engines, a horticultural show, ploughing horses and more. This is the second year the show has been held in Poulton, when before it was based in Fairford.

Show manager David Hooker said the whole weekend went very smoothly.

"It was very good," he said. "We got to use a field from the farmer next door for steam ploughing which went really well. We also had Stallions of Substance with a girl on a horse doing all sorts of tricks."

David went on to say that the rainy weather on Sunday put a few people off but Saturday was busy with guests. He added that the highlight of the show this year was the new steam ploughing event as it was something the event had never seen before.

"We had lots of positive comments," he said. "One person even emailed saying we had the cleanest toilets they had ever seen at a show."

The show last year was moved from its traditional home in Fairford to Quarry Farm in Poulton due to flooding problems affecting the running of the popular show.

"The move has effected us a bit," said David. "But people in Poulton think it's the best thing that has ever happened and we still see people from Fairford visiting."

Organisers went the extra mile this year and organised a free shuttle bus service from Fairford to Poulton and Cirencester to Poulton, which proved very popular.

"I'm quietly confident that it all went well. Everybody seemed happy," said David. "Fingers crossed we have the support to continue next year."

This year the show supported charities The Cotswold Care Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Care. Organisers are still adding up the figures and will be able to say how much they raised by next week.
