ARCHAOLOGISTS and volunteers have been uncovering hidden Roman mosaics and other treasures at Chedworth Roman Villa this summer.
The National Trust's team have been working away at the North Wing of the villa this August, hoping to discover the answers to questions about the layout of the rooms and maybe even uncover some mosaics.
They have also been looking for fragments of pottery and other ancient artefacts and visitors have been able to watch them work and ask them questions.
Alex Auden, operations manager at Chedworth Roman Villa and also an archaeologist, said it was fantastic to be able to share the finds with visitors as they happen.
"The area of the North Wing which we are currently exploring has a complex layout, but it holds many clues to how the villa developed between the second and fourth centuries," she said.
“Chedworth is unique. It was one of the grandest villas in Roman Britain, and one of the best preserved Roman sites in the country. Our discoveries and our understanding of how the Romans built and lived are now expanding rapidly.”
