PEOPLE of Fairford have remembered all those who gave their lives during the First World War with a short commemoration service.

Approximately 70 people, including representatives from Fairford Town Council, The Royal British Legion, RAF Fairford, the Army Cadets, the Navy Training Cadets and the town church, came along to the evening event to witness the unveiling of a commemorative plaque next to a new oak tree.

Mayor of Fairford Caroline Mumford said that the whole town council was so pleased that so many people attended the event and said thank you to everyone who took part.

"The oak tree has been planted near the route of a proposed new path linking the west of Fairford with the town centre, and we hope that future generations who walk by will remember all those whose lives were affected by the First World War," she said.

The service took place in Gasson's Field in the town on August 4. Cllr Mumford introduced the evening event before a plaque was unveiled for a newly planted English Oak tree.

A group of young people from the Air, Army and Navy Cadets then scattered poppy seeds around the area.
