WILTSHIRE Police had to divert all 999 calls to neighbouring Gloucestershire because of technical problems at its Devizes HQ today.
The 101 service in the county was also out of action.
The 999 system was later restored and a force spokesman said non-emergency 101 calls were likely to be restored by 4.30pm.
Police are asking the public to use the 999 number in emergencies only and not to use 101 at all until it is up and running again.
