ORGANISERS of the popular Cirencester Hare Festival have been congratulated by the town council.

At their most recent meeting, councillors praised the Cirencester Community Development Trust for the festival, which saw around 50 five-foot colourful hares dotted around the town centre for people to trail.

Mayor of Cirencester Cllr Joe Harris said the festival had brought thousands of people through the town while Cllr Mark Harris added: "I have seen people all over the place taking photos of the hares and climbing all over them."

Chairman of the Community Development Trust, and town councillor Andy Lichnowski said he wanted to thank everyone who had been involved in the family-fun event.

"I want to thank all the organisers, including Florence Beetlestone and our media partners, our sponsors and of course the public who have embraced the whole festival."

The festival lasts until late September this year. The models will then go under the hammer and are expected to raise £50,000 for a Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust project in Cirencester.
