THE first ever Cricklade band awards last week have been hailed as a great success.

Band members working towards a Royal College of Music accredited qualification throughout the last year and were rewarded for their efforts with medals at the event on July 21.

Steve Yorke, band academy co-ordinator of Cricklade band, said due to how well the ceremony went the band would be holding another next year.

He said: “It was very well received and everyone was very happy. We had nothing but good comments.”

Amy Thacker scooped the highest accolade in the shape of the platinum award.

Among the other winners were Tom Wood, Lucy Devos, Rebecca Godwin, Carys Gardener, Maddi Killian and Sam Thacker.

Members of the band working towards the qualification had their musical ability graded by Steve, who has received Royal College of Music accreditation.

Steve added: “It gives them something to aim for. It gives them a target with their learning and rewards them for succeeding.”
