THE sun shone brightly for the record number of people that attended WOMAD yesterday.
A total of 39000 people were able to see a whole host of acts from across the globe such as New Zealand act Fat Freddy’s Drop and Muyayo Rif who hail from Barcelona.
Chris Smith, director of WOMAD, said: “it is a very successful year. A lot of hard work goes into the festival and nationally we are quite unique. There is no other festivals like us.”
“The size of the festival has been great and it is the people that attend that make the festival. They have all played their part.
Stefano Vandelli, a Malmesbury resident, who performed with his group the Batch Gueye Band on the Ecotricity in the Arboretum stage said he was proud to be taking part in the festival.
He said: “It is extremely fun. For me as a resident of Malmesbury having this festival here every year is great as it has always been a very important event in the musical year.”
