AFTER getting her hands on a limited edition J.K. Rowling book a Cirencester woman is putting it up for auction.

Carol Lamble snapped up the second book of the Silkworm series after seeing a Tweet by Waterstones in Cirencester saying the store had five hardback copies of the book for the first people that showed the Tweet to staff.

After deciding the book, which is averaging a sale price on Ebay of £300, was too valuable to keep hold of she decided to put the book up for auction today (July 23) at Dominic Winter Auctioneers Ltd near South Cerney and give all the proceeds to Oxfam.

“I just wanted to give it away after I realised it was worth a few quid,” said Carol who works in the Oxfam book shop in Cirencester and is a freelance book editor.

“The reason that I am getting rid of it is that mostly I didn’t want the book. I would rather read it if it was a paper back when it cost £5.99 not if it is a hard back that costs two or three hundred pounds in case I damage it.

“I first thought I would put it in the window of the auction house, then I thought I know, I will take it to the auction house and give the money to a good cause.”

She added that she would like to say a big thank you to her friend the manager of the Yellow Lighted Book shop in Tetbury, Hereward Corbett for passing on the Waterstones Tweet.

The Silkworm is a crime fiction novel written by J. K. Rowling, published under her pseudonym Robert Galbraith.
