THOUSANDS of women will be descending on Cirencester Park on Sunday for the annual fundraising Race for Life.

About 1,700 women will meet at 11am to raise money and support Cancer Research UK.

The women, including cancer survivors and those who have lost friends or family members to the disease will be running five or 10 kilometres around the park.

The Standard has its own team in the five kilometre race and the women involved have already smashed their fundraising target of £500.

Race for Life event manager for Cirencester Michelle Leighton said: “I feel so grateful to everyone who is taking part in Race for Life and to all the family, friends and colleagues who are supporting them. .”

Volunteer marshals are still needed and entries for the race will be accepted until midnight on Friday, July 18.
