THIS year's Cotswold Show was a monster success, despite the indecisive weather, with visitors travelling from far and wide to the annual, popular event.

Though Saturday morning started off wet and windy, in Cirencester Park; by the afternoon the sun had come out and Sunday's weather was even more of an improvement, with visitors sitting down to have picnics on the grounds.

"Our numbers were down a bit on Saturday but it seemed very busy on Sunday," said organiser Earl Bathurst. "It's always fun to see people come back every year to the show. The Monster Trucks have been extremely popular with everyone."

Especially for this year the BBC Countryfile team was welcomed to the show to film and carry out sheep shearing demonstrations.

"They even played a cricket match with visitors which I think went very well," said Lord Bathurst. "The visitors won!"

Young visitor to the show, Ben Veitch, 7, who came with his mum Abi, said he thought the bird of prey display was amazing.

"I saw a peregrine falcon and an eagle owl and got to help the photographer," said Ben. "I've also been on the trampolines, the radio controlled cars and the water walkers. My favourite was the water walkers because I kept falling over."

Mum Abi was the main arena steward over the weekend and said she thought the event was "absolutely amazing".

"We've had a massive turnout and I've seen lots of happy customers," she said. "I haven't heard one piece of negative feedback."

Nathan Beet from Swindon came along spontaneously on the day with his daughter Emma, 8.

"We were on our way to my mum's house and she said she was coming here. It's been very good and very entertaining," he said.

This year's Cotswold Show featured the usual favourites including ferret racing, the Shetland Pony Grand National, family dog shows and more.

A food festival featuring 100 different stalls, new to 2014, offered shoppers local meat, ice cream, jams and chutneys as well as hot burgers, cold champagne and other treats.

The monster trucks, the dramatic finale on Saturday, were highly-anticipated. Visitors watched the monster vehicles bouncing over old cars and caravans in the main arena.

The Countryfile episode featuring the Cotswold Show will be broadcast on August 10 on BBC1.
