THE oldest nightclub in Cirencester has opened its doors again but for a very different use.

The Crown Inn Cirencester has been a popular meeting place for many years but not many remember that it is the home of the town’s first night club.

Situated at the back of the building and over the pub's rest rooms is a venue that has lain derelict since the mid-eighties when it was closed as a night club.

The room has now been converted into a stunning function room, with working kitchen and rest rooms.

The exposed beams that many years ago would have had party goers hanging from them have been renovated. So far the new function room, dubbed ‘The Gallery’ has been used only once, for the wedding of Courtney, the daughter of Crown owners Bill and Gail.

“The room looked absolutely fabulous for Courtney and so we have decided to open it up as a function room for others to hire for their special day,” said Crown landlord Bill.

“It could also be used for other family events, conferences and meetings. “

“Some of our older customers remember it as a club and many met their partners up there. It would be interesting to hear their stories or to see if anyone has any pictures of it back in the day.”
