A 28-year-old man from Swindon has been charged with the murder of Aulton Tom Rogers last week and the attempted murder of a woman in May.

District Crown Prosecutor Anton Allera said: "I have authorised Wiltshire Police to charge Jason Voong 28, from Swindon, with the attempted murder of Leanne James, 24, from Swindon on Thursday 8 May 2014 and the murder of Aulton Thomas Rogers, 60, from Swindon on Thursday 26 June 2014.

"It is alleged that Miss James and Mr Rogers were both attacked on the pathway that leads from Station Road to the Rodbourne area, near to the footpath to the Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon between 22.20 and 23.40 but on different dates.”

"I carefully reviewed all the available evidence provided to me by Wiltshire Police and was satisfied that there was sufficient evidence and it was in the public interest to prosecute Jason Voong with an offence of murder and attempted murder.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Chippenham Magistrates Court today.

Mr Allera added: "Proceedings are now ongoing and the defendant has the right to a fair trial. It is very important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings."
