COLESBOURNE Park Arboretum, rarely seen by visitors, will be open to the public for three days this year.
The park has a collection of over 300 trees from around the world, started by Henry John Elwes FRS in 1874 and continued by great-grandson Sir Henry Elwes.
Sir Henry said “Not only is Colesbourne famous for snowdrops, it also has a very special Arboretum of trees from around the world, some of which are more than 140 feet high.”
Eight of these are ‘Champion Trees’, recorded as the largest of their variety in the UK.
Open days will be on: Saturday 5 July; Friday 25 July and Saturday 6 September 2014.
Guided Tours will be available throughout the afternoon from 1.00 pm until late at £5, with children free and dogs on leads welcome.
