WILTSHIRE police have named the man who was murdered in Swindon town centre on Thursday as Aulton Thomas Rogers.

Shortly before midnight on Thursday 26th June 2014, Mr Rogers, who was known as Tom, was found dead next to a path between Rodbourne and Swindon town centre.

Mr Rogers, aged 60, lived alone in Walcott, Swindon. His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist family liaison officers.

The path begins close to Swindon Railway Station and runs to the Oasis Leisure Centre. The man was found approximately 100 metres from the railway station entrance, just after the underpass.A pedal cycle was also found at the scene.

Mr Rogers is described as white, approximately 5'9 tall and of very slim build with grey hair. He was wearing black trousers, a black polo shirt and a khaki hoodie. He had black trainers and was carrying a dark blue bag.

The post mortem examination has been completed and confirmed that the cause of death was multiple stab wounds.

DCI Sean Memory said: 'Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of Mr Rogers at this very difficult time.

Mr Rogers was not known to police and there is no apparent motive for the attack.We continue to work tirelessly on the case to identify those responsible and would ask anyone who knew Mr Rogers to contact us. This will help us to build a bigger picture of his lifestyle.

"He worked at the Woodlands Edge Public house in Midwinter Close, Swindon and we know that he left the pub shortly before 10:30 pm on Thursday 26th June 2014. I would particularly like to hear from anyone who saw Mr Rogers on Thursday night, any information will be dealt with in the strictest confidence."

A large number of detectives, crime scene investigators, search teams, officers and support staff have been working on the case.

In excess of 60 lines of enquiry are being investigated by the teams from across the county and Avon & Somerset Police under the Op Brunel agreement.

Some of the ongoing investigative work includes detailed searches, CCTV and intelligence analysis, and house to house enquiries.

DCI Memory added: "This is a challenging investigation but we have dedicated teams of officers and staff who are conducting meticulous enquiries in the area.

"We know that there were a number of people who were near to the scene on Thursday evening and I am appealing for those people to come forward as they may have vital information to help the investigation. It may be that these people think they have nothing which could help us but it is important that we gather details of everyone who was in the area.

"I am very keen to hear from anyone who knows of someone who sustained any injuries on Thursday night or who had blood on their clothing. We are able to eliminate from the investigation people who are not involved in the offence, so please do not be concerned that you may have wrongly identified someone. "

"If you have suspicions about someone please tell us. We can assure callers that information will be taken in the strictest confidence."
