Bourton-on-the-Water Paish Councillors say they are not being listened to over plans for a Co-op in the village

BOURTON councillors have said they are "not being listened to" regarding plans for a new Co-op store in the village.

Supermarket chain Midcounties Co-Operative is hoping to replace the former Salmonsbury House care home site in Station Road with a new one-storey food store.

While councillors are not opposed to the store being built, they are worried about how delivery trucks will be able to turn around in the area, without mounting the pavement.

"It's being built on the narrowest part of Station Road," said chairman of the parish council Bryan Sumner at this month's meeting. "The space is only five yards wide, how can anyone get a truck around there? They will not be able to do it."

The chairman went on to say he wanted to speak to planning officer Martin Perks about the issue.

"We are just not being listened to," he said.

Gloucestershire County Councillor for Bourton Paul Hodgkinson was at the last parish council meeting where the matter was discussed and has now bought up the issue with Gloucestershire Highways.

"As I understand, Highways does not have any objections around the application. They think the lorries will be able to navigate their way into the supermarket," said Cllr Hodgkinson. "It's going to be down to Cotswold District Council on whether they think it's right or not."
