A DOG was run over and killed by a waste collection lorry on Cricklade Street in Cirencester today.

The dog, a 4 year old bichon, died at around 9.45am outside the Costa Coffee shop in front of shocked shoppers.

Ubico who collect waste on behalf of Cotswold District Council (CDC) says it was not responsible for the dog’s death as it does not collect in the town centre on Thursdays.

It also confirmed that following the incident it took the dog away on request of CDC.

Mark Hulbert, operations manager at Ubico, said: “The dog ran away from its owners and into the road outside Costa.

“It is a bit disturbing that people may think Ubico was responsible so I want to make it clear that we are not.”
