A CIRENCESTER man took on the challenge of running almost four marathons in just more than 24 hours to raise money for homeless veterans.

Charles Malet of Love Lane’s Force Brewery took on the epic challenge of running the full 94 miles of Gloucestershire Way to raise cash for Alabaré Homes for Veterans, a charity that supports homeless ex-servicemen.

The brewery owner, and former military man, finished at Tewkesbury Abbey last Sunday evening. The entire 94 miles took him just under 29 hours and he raised £7,000 in less than a week.

"It was hard to know what to expect," said Charles. "It was extremely tough. I had to watch my footing every single step and it became clear half way through that finishing it in 24 hours was not feasible."

Charles originally wanted to complete the challenge in one whole day but instead it took him 28 hours and 59 minutes. The longest rest break he took was half an hour.

"I've walked long distances before but not like this. I leapt straight into the unknown. I couldn't have done it without the support team my wife organised."

Charles is hoping to raise £20,000 in total but said he will be happy with any amount that he raises.

"Donations are still coming in," he added. "It's important to get all the exposure for the charity too. I'm an ambassador for Alabaré Homes for Veterans, it is something I am very passionate about."
