YOUNG people from Gloucester aged between 14 and 17 could become a police cadet.

Gloucestershire Police is launching a new voluntary community cadet scheme, which aims to provide an opportunity for young people to play an active role helping officers in the county.

The scheme will begin in Gloucester but will hopefully be rolled out into other areas of the county soon after.

The cadet scheme will give people the chance to develop new skills, take part in crime reduction and learn about policing in Gloucestershire including specialist areas like the dog section, scenes of crime unit and armed response.

PC Lucie Koeltgen, who is co-ordinating the scheme, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people in Gloucester.”

“I’m sure the new cadets will help us to engage more effectively with young people across the city. Moreover, they will be making a positive contribution to our local communities, helping us deliver a valuable service to the public.”

“We are really excited about the new scheme. We have some brilliant activities planned, but we also want the cadets to be involved in developing the programme.”

The scheme is open to anyone aged between 14 and 17 years old and lives in the Gloucester area.

The scheme will be launched at the Paws in The Park event in Gloucester Park this Saturday, June 7.

There are 32 places and to register interest in the scheme please visit our information stand between 12 noon and 5pm.
