SHOPS, pubs and hotels all over Wiltshire have been caught up in a series of frauds involving fake bank notes.

A total of 30 incidents have been reported since the beginning of the year, in towns stretching from Chippenham and Corsham down to Trowbridge and Salisbury.

Wiltshire Police say the bogus cash is handed over in £50 or Scottish £20 notes.

They believe at least six men and women are involved and that they could be part of a larger team of criminals.

Police are asking shop and business staff to be on the alert and if they encounter anyone trying to use fake notes, to call 999 immediately and give officers a chance to catch the crooks at the scene.

If they have already left, staff can call the 101 non-emergency number or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 with information about their description or any vehicle they might be using.
