MEMBERS of a Cirencester dance group danced up a storm last weekend to inspire women all over town to enter this year’s Race for Life.

The Cirencester Creative Dance Academy swapped their usual routine for Race for Life’s Cancer Slam.

Organiser Michelle Leighton said the dance brought Market Place to a standstill on Saturday, May 10 and she hoped it motivated women of all ages to sign up for the Cancer Research UK fundraiser.

“The Cirencester 5km event is now 60 per cent full, so sign up now if you want to take part in Race for Life,” said Michelle.

“The new 10km event is also 62 per cent full.”

Leader of CCDA Katherine Bates said the dancers were so excited about taking part in the Cancer Slam and had a great time learning the routine.

“Cancer touches so many of us, including members of our group,” she said.

“That’s why we want to do everything we can to motivate women to power up the pink and show cancer who’s boss.”

Last year, 1,100 women took part in Race for Life in Cirencester and raised more than £76,321.

This year, organisers are calling for 1,500 women and girls to take part and help raise more than £90,000 for vital research in to cancer.

The event takes place on July 20 in Cirencester Park and attracts women of all ages who can run, jog, walk or crawl the 5km and 10km distances.

“Race for Life is non-competitive,” said Michelle. “It doesn’t matter how fit or fast you are.

“Taking part is about joining together against a disease that affects all of us.”

Thanks to research, cancer survival rates have doubled in the past 40 years.
