AN UNUSED piece of land next door to Fairford Library has been transformed into a courtyard garden thanks to Lechlade Garden Centre and Conservation Land Services.

The garden centre turned the library's plain piece of land into a pleasant courtyard with donations of planters, plants and a bench.

Team leader at Cirencester and Fairford Libraries Susie Mitchell said: "This area is now an ideal space for people to come in the summer to read a book or just enjoy the garden."

The courtyard was officially opened by Simon Burbage and John Pitts of Lechlade Garden Centre, following a talk and demonstration on planting hanging baskets and tubs.

The two hanging baskets made during the demonstration have also been donated to the new garden.
