SOAP box derby carts will be tearing around the streets of Tetbury at breakneck speed as part of the Wacky Races event this Bank Holiday Monday (May 5).

Twenty five teams navigating madcap vehicles will take on a course starting at the Chipping car park, that includes a demanding hairpin turn and a high-speed downhill finish.

The driver of each team that completes all three runs will be awarded a Wacky Races medal, whilst the winning team and the team submitting the soapbox, will be given a shield.

Ken White, of organisers the Tetbury Lions, said: “This is the third year we’ve done this and we are getting more racers every year. We are very pleased.”

IT consultants, IT Group, will be providing a double-decker bus to allow spectators to see the best views of the action.

Soldiers from 29 Regiment will also be on hand to help the Tetbury Lions manage the race.

Practice runs start at 10am with the races at 2pm.

There will also be market stalls in the Chipping car park.
