JOBSEEKERS in Cirencester could find themselves kicking off a new career in a matter of weeks with the help of a new back-to-work course.

Organised by housing group Bromford, the two-week course aims to equip unemployed people with the vital skills required to land that new job.

People enrolling on the Suited, Booted and Recruited course could secure one of 67 jobs being created at the revamped King’s Head Hotel after its recruitment team announced it would attend the event to hold mock interviews.

Alison Hammond, 52, of Querns Lane, who has been out of work for a few months, hopes the event will help her make the jump from into administration after previously working in retail.

“I found out about the course after visiting Bromford’s job club at the Cirencester library and I am really excited about getting involved,” she said.

“It will be great to be interviewed by an employer who has lots of job opportunities available and hopefully this course, combined with my volunteering activities, should secure me a job in no time.”

The course, which is jointly run with South Gloucestershire and Stroud College, will provide people with three nationally recognised qualifications covering first aid, customer service and employability.

Sessions based around CV writing, giving presentations and how to sell yourself interviews will also be incorporated into the course.

Organisers hope that the new skills will make jobseekers’ CVs stand out to their future employers.

Claire Bartlett, a skills coach at Bromford, said that the way people dress for an interview can affect their chances of success.

“The college want to ensure they cover everything in the two weeks and that includes showing your potential employer you mean business through the way you dress,” she said.

As part of the course, learners will be taken on a shopping trip where they will be able to pick out an interview outfit that will be paid for by South Gloucestershire and Stroud College.

“The ultimate outcome for this course is to get every learner work-ready and a bonus would be them securing a permanent job with the King’s Head Hotel, or at least start that dream job soon after.”

With only 14 spaces left, anyone interested in taking part in the course, which will be held at Bromford’s Tetbury Road offices, should call 0800 056 6940 as soon as possible.
