CYCLING more than 60 miles during the day is a mean feat by anyone’s standards but two women from Cirencester are preparing to tackle the gruelling challenge during the night.

Alison Palmer, 54, and Katherine Evans, 51, who both work at Cirencester-based McGills Chartered Accountants, will take part in a 100kilometre night cycle around London on Saturday, June 7.

“It is a challenge. I have been thinking for a long time about giving something back after recovering from breast cancer,” said Alison.

The women will be raising money for the ‘pink’ charities – Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action.

She said: “I thought that this was a good opportunity to raise some money by doing something completely different.

“With eight weeks to go, I am just thinking that I can do this. You have got to be positive in life, especially when battling cancer or you will never win.”

The unique charity event will see thousands of women cycle in darkness past some of the capital’s most iconic locations including St Paul’s Cathedral, the Olympic Stadium and the London Eye.

Katherine said: “I am slightly nervous about the ride but I am really looking forward to it as it is a very good and worthwhile cause.”
