A NEW parking tariff giving motorists greater flexibility on Sundays is to be introduced in Cirencester’s Brewery Car Park from next month.
Cotswold District Council has announced that a new half hour charge of 50p along with an hourly charge of £1.30 will come into effect at the town centre car park from Sunday, April 13.
Currently motorists are charged a fee of £1.50 to use the Brewery Car Park for any length of time between 8am and 6pm on a Sunday.
Cllr Barry Gibbs, cabinet member for customer services, said that, while the £1.50 all day fee on Sundays is reasonable in comparison with many other shopping centres, it does not distinguish between those who wish to stay at the car park for a few minutes or all day.
“We believe that these new options will make the Sunday charges ever fairer for users by offering greater flexibility,” he said.
The changes were first announced by CDC leader Lynden Stowe on Thursday, February 27 as part of the district council’s budget for the coming year.
