RUNNING in Cirencester could be given a boost after it was revealed that a new athletics track could be built at the Kingshill Sports Complex.

Members of Cirencester Town Council’s estate service group agreed, at a meeting last month, to support the development of a purpose built athletics track in the town.

Andrew Tubb, chief executive of CTC, told the Standard that it was important for the council to get behind projects that would benefit the whole community.

“The town council will always look to try and support local projects whenever it is able to. Right now, we are exploring the feasibility of installing a track,” he said.

Mr Tubb also said that, while an athletics track would be “very costly” to build, there were various ways of delivering it.

News of a running track in Cirencester has been welcomed by members of the town’s expanding running community.

“It would be great if the town council could deliver this. Of course, we would be very much in favour of it,” said John Buck, club secretary of Running Somewhere Else.

“At the moment, the two running clubs in Cirencester have to travel to Cheltenham and Gloucester to use a track. I think it would be really useful in getting young people interested in running.”

The Kingshill Sports Complex is currently undergoing a massive redevelopment with the new Watermoor Primary School and a new skate park being built on site.
