A DAD from South Cerney is just over a week away from completing his second full length marathon on 12 months.
Roger Woolford, of Boxbush Road, will take part in this year’s Brighton Marathon on Sunday, April 6 after being bitten by the running bug at the London Marathon in 2013.
“To cross the finish line in a marathon gives you a real buzz. It is quite emotional when you’ve finished because you have put so much time and effort into it. It’s a strange feeling,” he said.
The 36-year-old, who works as for Thames Water, will run the race to raise vital funds for the South Cerney Playgroup. “I live in South Cerney and my son went to the playgroup when he was younger. I just really wanted to give something back to the community,” he said.
Roger is hoping that local businesses from in and around South Cerney will sponsor him in exchange for having their company name on his running shirt.
The playgroup will also be running a competition where supporters can pay to guess how long it will take Roger to complete the 26 mile race.
“I ran the London marathon in four and a half hours last year. I’m really looking to get my time under four hours this time. I think it’s possible, I have been training ever since I completed the race last year,” he said.
Anyone who would like to support Roger is advised to contact South Cerney Playgroup on 01285 860340.
