POLICE are investigating after a laser was shone at Wiltshire Air Ambulance as it prepared to land at Devizes.

The incident on Tuesday prompted an angry reaction from the crew on Twitter.

“To the idiot in Devizes who decided to laser the aircraft while we were in the orbit to land you have no idea how dangerous that was,” they posted.

In response to worried tweets from the public, they replied: “All ok just very angry at the stupidity of the person who did it.”

Officers on the ground investigated the incident and are now appealing for information from the public.

In a statement Devizes Police said: “Shining a laser at any form of aircraft is an incredibly stupid and dangerous thing to do. Recently we have had incidents of someone shining a green laser into the cockpit of the Wiltshire Air Ambulance in Devizes.

“This could cause permanent damage to the eyesight of the pilot and could cause a serious accident and endanger life.”

The statement warned: “Be assured that if you do this, we will find you and we will arrest you.”

Anyone with information can call Wiltshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
