A TEAM of fundraisers will be rowing on solid ground instead of water next month as they push to row the 104 miles of the River Thames on rowing machines in Lechlade.

Whether keen or not-so-keen, rowers of all abilities are being invited to join in on a day of fundraising and support the African Children's Fund.

Two rowing machines will be stationed at Lechlade Market Place this Saturday, April 26 to raise money for the fund. For every 7p raised, a child in Africa is provided with a healthy porridge meal and will be able to go to school rather than work or beg.

A target of £700 has been set and if it is successfully reached, 10,000 children will be fed and schooled in Africa.

Director of African Children’s Fund Dee Tyrer said she was excited about what the fundraising event might deliver.

“This is the first time we have put on a fundraising event of this nature. Helping 10,000 children would be a phenomenal achievement so we are asking supporters to dig deep and support this great cause," she said.

African Children's Fund is a UK-based charity working to help African children lead happy and fulfilled lives. There are shops for the charity in Lechlade, Faringdon, Grove and Witney.

Whether attending to cheer on the rowers or take part in the rowing, all are welcome to come along to Lechlade Market Place on Saturday, April 26 to show their support . If anyone can do any rowing during the day contact 01865 820570 or 01367 252648.
