COTSWOLD District Council has made good progress on its course in becoming the country’s most efficient council, according to its leader.

The council aims to be classed as the top functioning authority by 2016 is currently ranked in fifth place out of more than 200 shire district councils.

In order to assess itself, CDC has compiled a list of nine indicators, such as the percentage of council tax collected and the amount of household waste per property, that it uses to judge how it is performing.

Cllr Lynden Stowe, leader of CDC, said: “We have made good progress since 2012 and the key things that we have achieved include generating savings by further development of joint working with other councils.”

CDC also announced that it is set to make savings of up to £3million over the next 10 years through the transfer of management at three of the district’s leisure centres.

Over the next 12 months, the council has set itself a number of priority tasks to complete in order to meet its expected level of efficiency.

Some of the tasks include implementing a programme of car park improvements and providing financial support for flood alleviation projects.
