A BAND whose members survived the Rwandan genocide feature in the line-up for this summer’s WOMAD festival at Malmesbury.

The Good Ones, who were formed with just one battered guitar between two players, are appearing on the Charlton Park bill alongside world music performers from as far and wide as Cuba, the Antipodes, Norway, the Balkans and the African continent.

Soul singer Alice Russell from the UK, dub outfit Fat Freddy’s Drop from New Zealand, Goran Bregovic’s Wedding and Funeral Orchestra and Zimbabwean musical elder statesman Oliver Mtukudzi and The Black Spirits have all been confirmed.

Former Carolina Chocolate Drops singer Dom Flemons has teamed up with folk and blues guitarist Martin Simpson for the festival, which also includes performances from Iranian singing sisters Mahsa and Marjan Vahdat, modern calypso from Kobo Town of Trinidad and the Magic Drum Orchestra from the UK.
