A MAN charged in connection with the stabbing of two men at an address in Nettleton Road in Gloucester on Monday, January 13 has now been charged with murder.

Anthony Keith Poole, 51 and of Melbourne Street East, Gloucester was originally charged on January 15 with two counts of causing grievous bodily harm - wounding with intent.

Following the death of one of the victims, 30-year-old Martin Stokes, Poole has now been charged with murder.

He will appear at Bristol Crown Court on April 29.

Detective Inspector Ruth Mather said: "Following close consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service officers visited Poole in prison to charge him with the additional offence of murder.

"Given this week's events in the city we would like to reassure the public that this is another case in which we believe those involved knew each other and that it wasn't a stranger attack."

Police are still keen to hear from anyone who could have information about this incident, particularly anyone who was in Russell Street or around the alleyways at the rear of Eastgate Street at approximately 8.50pm on Monday, January 13.

Anyone who can help should call 101, quoting incident 418 of January 13.
