THE victim of the fatal stabbing in Gloucester yesterday evening (Tuesday February 18) has been named as Hollie Gazzard.

Police were called to reports of a man attacking a woman at a hairdressers on Southgate Street in the city at around 5.50pm.

The victim was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital but later died.

A 22-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody at Cheltenham Police Station.

It is believed that the victim and the alleged attacker knew each other.

Acting Chief Inspector Neil Smith said “Gloucester is a safe place to live, work and visit and this type of incident is rare.

“Officers are still in the area carrying out enquiries - If you were in the area and saw something we would ask you to contact police as soon as possible.

"We're also working to put those who were in the salon at the time of the incident in contact with the relevant support agencies as we understand what they saw would have had a significant impact on them."

The owner of the hairdressing salon where the woman was stabbed told Gloucestershire Police that she does not want to comment at this time.
