A NEW scheme is being launched in Cirencester that aims to promote the unique and diverse food on offer in the town.

The Food Passport to Cirencester initiative, set up by the Cirencester Community Development Trust, will celebrate local food by distributing monthly menu cards featuring the recipes of local chefs.

“Through the menu cards, we hope to promote the great food offer available in Cirencester and show that it is possible to eat well using fresh ingredients purchased from local retailers in the town,” said Jonathan Davies, trust director.

As a market town, Cirencester is well known for its independent traders and the Food Passport is trying to build on this already strong reputation.

The first menu card will showcase the favourite meals of chef Laurence Kapoor from the Little Green Wiggly Machine.

“Supporting local is no chore when there are so many fantastic producers in our area. We need to celebrate the incredible people and produce in Cirencester,” said Laurence.

The menu cards will also enable its holder to enter a competition to win prizes from some of the chefs involved in the project.

The cards will be released on the last Friday of every month and will be available from the town council offices in Dyer Street and independent retailer the Market Garden.
