A DRIVER has died after his lorry carrying bales of hay left the M4 and went into a ditch this morning.

The truck was heading west between the Chippenham and Bath junctions when the incident happened just after 7am.

Wiltshire Police have appealed for witnesses who may have seen the white Volvo articulated lorry beforehand or spotted it leaving the road between one and two miles west of Leigh Delamere services. No other vehicles were involved.

The driver,, a 62 year old man from St Breward in Cornwall, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lanes one and two of the motorway were closed to allow for scene examination work to be completed and for the safe recovery of the vehicle, which had come to an upright stop.
