A CIRENCESTER social club has been forced to close after falling into financial difficulty.
The Social and Services Club in Chesterton has been repossessed by Cotswold District Council after failing to keep up with its payments.
A spokesman for CDC said: “The Social and Services Club has been a tenant of the Council for a number of years and, as reported in previous editions of the Standard newspaper, has struggled in recent years to meet its lease obligations.
“This culminated last year (after several mutually-delayed attempts) in the Council going to Court to seek forfeiture of the lease on grounds of non-payment.
“A repayment agreement was made via the Court and arrears were brought up-to-date.
“Unfortunately, the Club has once again failed to meet its obligations and therefore the Council has enforced forfeiture of the lease and re-taken possession of the site.”
