CHELTENHAM police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was robbed in the town.

A man approached a woman from behind outside the entrance to a block of flats on Brookbank Close at around 12.20am today (Thursday January 30).

He snatched her shopping bags before pushing her against a wall and grabbing her handbag, which contained a black Samsung Galaxy S4 phone worth £400.

He then made off on a mountain bike. The man is described as white, in his 20s, 5ft 9ins tall, of proportionate build and wearing a black hooded top.

The woman had just been to Tesco and had walked along an alleyway to get to Brookbank Close, so anyone who witnessed a man acting suspiciously in any of those areas should call police on 101, quoting incident 8 of January 30.
